2025 Edition

Art of Writing 2025 is the 37th edition of our publication that has published over 15,000 talented young authors and artists.  The conference has given students a boost in moving forward as writers, authors, artists, collaborators, and critical thinkers.

This conference exists because of the generosity, dedication, and enthusiasm of many people. We are deeply thankful to the teachers and parents who continually encourage and guide their young authors and artists, and to the administrators and their support staff who advocate for and elevate this important work.

We extend our sincere appreciation to Caitlin Anguil, Milwaukee Art Museum Associate Educator of School & Teacher Programs, for her creativity and care in helping shape meaningful learning experiences for our students; Dr. Steve Plum, Superintendent, Kettle Moraine School District, for his leadership and continued support of student voice and the arts; and Sara Otto, Chief Communications Officer, Kettle Moraine School District, for her thoughtful storytelling and dedication to sharing and celebrating this work with the broader community.

We are especially grateful to Jason Van Roo, our Artists Conference Coordinator, who organized the young artists’ experience and fostered meaningful opportunities for artistic expression and collaboration.

We also gratefully acknowledge John and Pat Hallagan, founders of the Art of Writing Conference. Their vision and leadership created the foundation on which this conference continues to grow.

Special thanks to Mike Comiskey for sharing his expertise and guidance. We are grateful for his generosity and steady support behind the scenes.

Also, Tazmin Kaldhusdal, who generously gave her time and talents to help transform the many coordinating details into a smooth and vibrant experience. Her collage of student and museum art on the book cover beautifully captures the spirit of this collaboration, reflecting both the creativity of our young artists and the inspiration they found in the museum’s collection.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Paul Filipowicz, Chicago blues hall-of-fame singer and songwriter, who shared his journey in finding his voice as a songwriter and offered powerful encouragement to our young authors and artists to discover and trust their own voices.

We are also grateful for the help of our Conference Concierges, whose efforts kept the day running smoothly for everyone: Katie and Amelia Lephardt; Jeff and Heather Hein; Gopu Prasad; Lynn Hesprich; Kate Herro; Susan Herro; Andrea Bulen; Lisa Baudoin of Books and Co. in Oconomowoc; and the Milwaukee Art Museum Docent Staff. We are deeply thankful for the time, care, and energy each of you contributed.

With appreciation,
Terry and Janet Kaldhusdal
Conference Coordinators
